PISTOL - THE LITTLE HORSE WHO DID  (Page 3)
In the Spring of 2006 we traveled to the U.S.A. for three weeks – studying and learning from barefoot practitioners.  Our first stop was with Jaime Jackson, the founder of the barefoot movement in the U.S.A.  We then traveled to Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado – observing and working with a variety of practitioners.  This is one of the steps towards certification with the AANHCP (American Association of Natural Hoof Care Practitioners).  Later in the spring Lane would fly back to L.A. to attend the AANHCP conference and ‘hang’ with more educators, practitioners etc.   Later in that same summer, it was back to the U.S.A. to a Pete Ramey clinic in Helena, Montana.  Lane is KEEN and he is SERIOUS about BAREFOOT.

The LA trim
In January of 2007 Lane was ‘invited’ to the UK to work/study/share in more barefoot knowledge.  He spent time with Paul Jackson, a farrier friend with over 35 years experience and NOW a strong barefoot advocate.  Lane also spent two days doing cadaver dissections and study, then on to a rehabilitation center.  In between hoof practitioners, Lane spent time with former guests who are now maintaining their own horses hooves.  As well they are using Lane’s very successful ‘user friendly/horse friendly’ ‘non-resistant’ horse training methods.  See the  the Profile Pages on this site for the comments of those who have worked with Lane.
NATURAL HOOF CARE SEMINARS
See Rates Page for more information the Natural Hoof Care sessions planned for this coming season.
Lane trimming young Draft Crosses who have never been trimmed before - LOOK NO HALTERS and they are HAPPY!  Lane took approximately two or three hours to trim most of these youngsters (28 of them) – this might seem a ‘long time’ but in the grand scheme of an equine life time –  we feel that a POSITIVE first experience with hoof care is ‘timeless’ and ‘priceless’
PISTOL'S STORY (CONTINUED)

So as you can see, Pistol was coming to a KEEN and  very POSITIVE Advocate of Healthy Natural Hoof Care and an advocate of the more Natural Equine Environment – a man who was willing to be patient and work with this little stallion as well as good old  Mother Nature.  Some founder cases can be corrected in relatively short time but the severe cases can take months!  No one can positively/accurately confirm time frames!

When we brought Pistol home he was still under the care of a mobile Vet who came twice in the space of  a couple of weeks to take X-Rays of Pistol’s hooves in order to verify any ‘rotation’ of the coffin bones.  The first pictures came back with 2 degrees rotation and only a few days later it was already up to 5.8 degrees.

We knew the worst was yet to come!
