DAN & BETTY - UNITED STATES

Profile: What can we say – 6 visits have come and gone and the friendship continues to grow.
Dan is our FABULOUS ‘Web Wrangler’ whose work receives accolades many times a year from internet browsers – even those NOT remotely interested in things ‘equine’!
Dan and Betty are now retired in New Mexico and have a lovely home with TWO Incredible Icelandic Horses living just outside their kitchen window in a GREAT paddock with an adobe barn! They claim this horse ownership, in part, is due to Lane’s expertise, teachings, and equine passion they observed and took part in here at the LAZY M. We are flattered and pleased – for Dan and Betty as well as for their horses ‘Morgunn’ and ‘Gletta’!
Icelandic horses are well known for having good feet (GREAT gaits too) and these two horses are no exception. They are of course barefoot and travel the New Mexico terrain with ease – no hoof boots required for these two!
This part of New Mexico is very ‘horsey’ and Dan and Betty are lucky to have friends ‘in the business’. Folks with whom they can discuss issues and depend upon for good support. Betty is a willing student who has done wonders – bonding with and gaining the trust and respect, as well as successfully accomplishing a re-training program with her mare ‘Gletta’. Dan is an avid researcher and studies all things equine (many other interests as well)!
We have learned much from tips, web sites and books that Dan has shared with us over the years!
THANKS for the MANY things you TWO do and we know the guests will enjoy your pictures and comments!

Dan and Betty's Comments: We first visited the Lazy M Ranch in the summer of 2001 after attending the Calgary Stampede. We expected it to be just one more of the many riding ranches we had already visited. However, we were very surprised!
Margie and Lane were the most welcoming and warm people we had ever met at a guest ranch. And, we were delighted to find out that we were expected to do everything with our own horse - groom, tack, etc. All the other ranches had your horse ready to go in the morning and they took them from you when the ride was completed. This was very different.
Over the years we have learned so much from our Lazy M experiences and from picking Margie and Lane's brains - which they joyfully put up with! As Margie mentioned above, we know our Lazy M experiences were the foundation for us owning our own horses.
Our Icelandic Horses, Morgunn and Gletta, are the beneficiaries of all Lane's patience in working with the both of us.
Even though we have learned a lot about natural hoof care from Lane, we have decided that we will leave that work to a farrier. Fortunately, we have a great farrier, Richard Candelari of Tome, New Mexico, who strongly believes in natural hoof care. Neither Gletta, who is 25, nor Morgunn, who is 8, have ever had a shoe on their hooves and you can tell from the pictures below how they have benefited from this. Both horses live in a dry, high desert climate and rarely get their hooves wet.
To Lane and Margie - thanks for all you have given us and thanks for being good friends.
Morgunn - left front (sand crack has been there forever and is no problem)
