Lyn's Comments: 2005 was to be simply a horse holiday. It turned into something quite different. I became part of a real ‘family’ of horse lovers! People united by one thing – a desire to present all of our horses with a better ‘Feel’ of doing. As well as a chance for us to become better horsemen and horsewomen.
Our first week we enjoyed fun and games with lots of thoughts - new & different attitudes about and around our equine friends.
Lane offered some of his in depth knowledge and shared his ABC’s of horsemanship. AWARENESS, BOUNDARIES and CONSISTENCY.
I realized that these ABC’s are present in our every day lives, we just sometimes forget to use them. Perhaps some of us have been less fortunate and didn’t realize they were there - just for the ‘taking’.
It became clear to me – with a creature as big and powerful as the horse, both they and us need these very important ABC’s!

In 2006 we booked for more in depth knowledge and sharing. There was a group of nine signed up for Lane’s Horsemanship Seminar. There were some from England , Germany , Scotland and yes even a few from Canada !
Lane gave us all a chance to talk and discuss our needs in the first session. Seems we were ALL on the same page – we wanted to improve ourselves. Yes, ourselves and not our horses! Seems that is often the ‘first step’, when we realize that maybe the horse/our horse didn’t just show up with problems - perhaps we humans gave ‘problems’ to them!
Next we collected a wide variety of LAZY M horses from the pasture. Some as young as two while others were seasoned guest horses. Some of these presented little challenges while others presented a lot more! They are all so different – just like us. When we are to ‘bond’ with a horse, it is important to find the right partnership – choose characteristics that will ‘suit and work together’!
The NEW BEGINNINGS were underway!
Two Alberta gals had brought their own horses. Certainly wish I could have too!
Sandy worked tirelessly with her boy Major and the results over the week were astounding. It was fun to see the big grin on Lane's face when he saw tears of real joy in Sandy ’s eyes once she realized that her BOND with Major was growing bigger, better and stronger ALL the time!
Those ABC’s sure were needed and tested during that week with Sandy and Major….. They WORKED!
My observation of Adele with her horse Dee was that chestnut mare just (and I say JUST) gave ‘enough’. Just ‘enough’ for Adele to ‘sort of’ accept each time. A real smart mare – performing only to what she knew Adele would be ‘OK’ with! So with more knowledge and guidance it was fun watching the ‘tension’ ease between these two. It was fun watching their ‘work’ become more ‘pleasure’ and ‘fun’ for both!
Observing these gals with their horses I could really see how folks can ‘tune’ in to the way their own horse works and thinks. It proved to me that time and patience can be rewarded ten times over - both for the Human AND the Horse!
My project was ‘Boomer’ a nice bay youngster (3) who was close to 16 hh. I’m SHORT compared to a couple of others in the group – why me, why this big beast?
The weather was not co-operating so we went into the barn. We worked with large sheets of plastic. Did some great work with leading and simply walking with our horse. So many of us just don’t have a clue how to walk whilst in the company of a horse (no matter what size). These creatures need some space and we often just get right in there and box them in. Other times they take our space and push on us. We learned some very important lessons that day!

Trailer Loading – many of us have seen it ‘all’ – the stress and trauma to both humans and horses trying to force/coax/bribe (you name it) in asking steeds to enter a lorry or trailer. We observed and learned. We worked with all our horses and each and every single horse and handler achieved a real peaceful, calm and well thought out and finely executed trailer maneuver! They ALL walked in and stepped right out real slow, then re-entered and stood untied, just waiting real quiet for the signal to step out again. We did this quite a number of times.
Those ABC’s successfully at work again!
Sabine from Germany worked with a young ‘Canadian’ filly. She worked in the round pen under Lane’s instruction. Then when the time was right he simply hoisted Sabine right up there on this little filly for the FIRST TIME. Simply a halter, a lead rope & bareback! It was fun to see Sabine’s face - shock, joy and then elation, AND the filly seemed to enjoy it too!
Jane from the South of England worked with Alamo. 'Big Al’ he was called affectionately. Ross and Jackie also had ‘projects’ and we/they all excelled with these horses using the ABC’s!

The following information from Lyn takes us to a step she has called NEW BEGINNINGS.
Profile: Lyn has always LOVED horses – working with them and being around them. he recently turned 50 and has even undertaken ‘barefoot trimming’ and maintenance of her own two horses and one for her sister with EXCELLENT results! Also Lyn is being sought after by horse owners with ‘issues’. Folks have been watching her work, observing such positive results and behaviors that she shares with her own horses…..they are keen to try!! She is now providing great help for quite a variety of local horses and owners – we think that they are very LUCKY to have found her!!
She is also a Boxer Breeder of Renown in Europe – producing champions and lovely companions around the globe!
She and her husband Michael along with their son Jason have a very successful screening/printing business.
Watching Lane using his ABC’s and his methods creates calm handlers and horses.
Care and Patience along with mutual RESPECT- creates GOOD THINGS for Horse and Humans!
It’s out there for ALL if you just try to FEEL for it!
(I even rode that 3 year old ‘Boomer’ – his first rider!!)
